This morning the V International Meeting of Schools of Education was presented at the Víctor Villegas Auditorium. Flamenco and Spanish Dance, an event that will bring together young talents and professionals from La Unión from March 19 to 23 flamenco in a space for learning, exhibition and culture.
The event was attended by the Minister of Culture of the Region of Murcia, Ms. Carmen M. Conesa, the Mayor of La Unión, Mr. Joaquín Zapata, and the Director of Flamencum Experience, Mr. Rubén Calderón, who highlighted the importance of this meeting in the promotion and preservation of art. flamenco.
For her part, the Minister of Culture, Carmen M. Conesa, has pointed out: “with the international meeting, The Cathedral of Cante becomes the Cathedral of Dance, from the quejío to the desplante. And as it could not be otherwise, when this international meeting reaches the Region of Murcia and La Unión, it grows and deepens talent, with the creation and celebration of the first Desplante Juvenil contest.”
The mayor of La Unión, Joaquín Zapata, has stressed the importance of this event for the city: “The Union is a world reference for flamenco, and this meeting allows us to continue promoting our tradition and give visibility to emerging talent throughout the year. We are proud to host an event that fosters teaching and passion for flamenco. "
Along the same lines, Rubén Calderón, director of Flamencum Experience, has emphasized the importance of training in this art and has advanced the special programming of the event:
"The flamenco It is not only a show, but a way of life that must be taught and shared. This meeting offers a unique opportunity for young artists to perfect their technique and immerse themselves in the essence of this genre. In addition to the master classes and exhibitions, this year we have incorporated important new features: on Friday, March 21, a great Desplantes Gala will be held with top-level artists such as La Moneta, Lucía La Piñona, Eduardo Guerrero… all of them winners of the Desplante in previous editions of the Festival del Cante de las Minas, something that has never been done before in the history of the contest. Also on Saturday 22nd, at 22:00 pm, we will have the show Muerta de Amor, by Manuel Liñán, all in the Antiguo Mercado Público, an emblematic space where a great flamenco party will take place. And to close with a flourish, on Sunday 23rd at 19:00 pm the grand final of the first Concurso de Desplante Juvenil will take place, a milestone that reaffirms our commitment to the canteof the flamenco. "
As a final touch to the presentation, attendees enjoyed a special performance by Paula Rodríguez, winner of the Desplante Flamenco of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas in 2021, who has offered an emotional display of his art in honor of the inauguration of the event.
The 5th International Meeting of Schools of Flamenco and Spanish Dance will be held from March 19 to 23, 2025 in La Unión and will feature a varied program of workshops, master classes and shows that will make the city the epicenter of flamenco for five days.
