The flamenco singer and dancer Esther Weekes released her first single “Triana Blues” on the 16th of December 2022, alongside a promotional video. Lovers of jazz, blues and flamenco will want to check this out. It’s the first release of her album “Lucky Eye” that comes out in August 2023.

Born and raised in London, Esther started her career as an interpretive dancer in jazz and traditional flamenco and for the last 19 years she’s been living in Seville. She has performed all over Spain and Europe, channelling the spirit and mystery of flamenco through the ever-changing nature of jazz and flamenco’s passionate dance style.

Fusing the spirit of Andalucia and the rhythm of swing, Triana Blues is like blues that fell in love with a milonguero on the streets of Triana. This is the first of nine original songs created with the cooperation of the flamenco guitarist Tino van der Sman paying homage to flamenco guitar, played at the tempo of jazz, blues and soul.

Amongst the musicians are some familiar flamenco faces, van der Sman (guitar), David Chupete (percussion), Cristian de Moret (piano), Antonio Coronel (drums), José Manuel Posada (bass), Roberto Jaén (clapping) and Abel Harana (claps) and from the world of jazz, celebrated British trumpeter Byron Wallen.

What’s more “Triana Blues” combines both spanish and english lyrics, with the blues influenced Esther and the traditional flamenco style of Boterita and Cristina Rodriguez Tovar. In fact, the multicultural mix of Triana Blues promises to take the listener beyond their own cultural boundaries and helps them explore new and exciting musical possibilities.
