ExpoFlamenco honored with prize by the University of Cordoba

Luis de Córdoba, Concha Calero, Paco Cepero, José Luis Ortiz Nuevo, Manuel Curao and Expoflamenco are the recipients of the 1st Cordoba Flamenco Art Prizes awarded by the Flamencology Chair of the University of Cordoba.


The recipients of the 1st Cordoba Flamenco Art Prizes have been revealed. The winners are Luis de Córdoba, Concha Calero, Paco Cepero, José Luis Ortiz Nuevo, Manuel Curao and Expoflamenco in the categories of Cante, Baile, Guitar, Research, and Promotion, respectively.

 

The announcement was made at University of Cordoba‘s Pedro López building, the official headquarters of this institution. The winners were selected from among thousands of nominations in a process open to the public via the official website of the University’s Flamencology Chair. The jury chose the winners based on the criteria of equality, merit and skill, taking in account track record, originality and mastery.

 

The Cordoba Flamenco Art Prize of Teaching, category Cante, was awarded to Luis de Córdoba. The same prize in the category Baile was awarded to Concha Calero, and the prize in the category Guitar was awarded to Paco Cepero. The Cordoba Flamenco Art prize in the category Research was awarded to José Luis Ortiz, while the prize in the category Promotion was awarded to the ExpoFlamenco website, an honor we are truly grateful for, and to the journalist Manuel Curao.

The members of the committee were Antonio Arenas, vice rector of Continuous Training, Employability and Entrepreneurship of the University of Cordoba (UCO); David Pino, cantaor and director of UCO’s Chair of Flamencology; Juan Miguel Moreno Calderón, piano teacher and general coordinator of Cultural Policy at Cordoba’s City Council; Narcisa Ruiz, teacher of baile flamenco and provincial deputy of Tourism; Antonio Manuel Rodríguez, writer and UCO professor; and Ricardo López Crespo, vice-president of de Caja Rural del Sur savings bank.

 

These prizes were created with the goal of honoring those individuals or entities — public or private — who have been outstanding in the areas or research, promotion and study of flamenco art. Each prize includes one thousand euros, courtesy of the Fundación Caja Rural del Sur, a medal of the Flamencology Chair and a diploma of the University of Cordoba.

 

The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, December 18th, as part of the Christmas Gala of the Gran Teatro de Córdoba, after the show ¿Qué pasaría si pasara? performed by David Palomar, Roberto JaénRiki Rivera and El Junco.
