Pure flamenco. Cante jondo. The highly expected first album of this cantaor from Chiclana is a work of love and art, without a doubt.

Alonso Núñez, better known as Rancapino Chico, is well renowned in the world of flamenco, and certainly not just because he’s the son of the great cantaor Alonso Núñez Núñez ‘Rancapino’ and Juana Fernández Núñez, nephew of Orillo del Puerto and great-grandson of La Obispa. This cantaor from Chiclana has been immersed for months in the recording of his first album, which has come to light in February 2019. It’s titled Por mi amor al arte (“For my love of art”), and he himself has explained what it represents. “The title reflects my love of art, of cante jondo. I want it to be something from deep within me, because I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, full of excitement, and I want it to be something very, very special”, explained the artist.

This first album of Rancapino is a tribute to the masters of flamenco who have inspired him. “I’ve wanted to record surrounded by people I like, to be in good harmony, with people who inspire me”, stated the cantaor. “This is the album I wanted to record, and it has taken shape precisely as I always imagined it, the way I think cante comes out best”, he said.

Dozens of festivals and prestigious flamenco festivals have been sold out with the performances of Rancapino Chico. The critics by experts and the wider public alike have generally been generous, a great achievement for one of flamenco’s young voices in highest demand these days.

«This album is pure flameco, cante jondo»

In Por mi amor al arte we have flamenco. A lot of flamenco. “My approach is communicating where I come from. Who influenced my singing. Not just what I use to sing in recitals, but also what I have not performed, but is there, in the background. I like recording soleás, seguiriyas, tarantos, fandangos de Hueva, but not only that”, stated Rancapino Chico.
