Espacio ExpoFlamenco, the new flamenco meeting place in Jerez

The project “Espacio ExpoFlamenco”, a multi-purpose venue focused on promoting flamenco in the global stage, has just opened in Jerez de la Frontera. Tomás de Perrate, Alfredo Lagos and Leonor Leal set the flamenco tune in the opening ceremony.

Jerez de la Frontera — one of the cradles of flamenco, located in the Cádiz province of Andalusia — has been chosen to host the snazzy Espacio ExpoFlamenco. The opening ceremony of this new project took place on November 24th, with Tomás de Perrate, Alfredo Lagos and Leonor Leal performing as invited artists.

Espacio ExpoFlamenco is located in a privileged area of Jerez rich in flamenco tradition, on Diego Fernández Herrera Street, across the Díez Mérito winery. The official opening is on Friday, November 25th, the operating hours being 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM / 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM from Monday to Friday, and 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Saturdays.

This new venue features a shop offering high-quality flamenco products suitable for every budget: vinyl records, old books, a good selection of flamenco shoes, t-shirts and plenty of souvenirs and collectibles, always having flamenco as the main focus.

Besides, it hosts a gallery and a perfectly conditioned and sound-proofed stage, ideal for presentations of new albums and books, live performances and master classes of guitar, baile and cante.

The MC in the opening ceremony was José María Castaño — contributor of ExpoFlamenco, where he hosts an excellent podcast series — who highlighted the concept of adding a physical space to the great work already undertaken by the ExpoFlamenco.com website. Castaño’s words were followed by a performance featuring maestro Alfredo Lagos at the guitar, Tomás de Perrate in cante and bailaora Leonor Leal offering an artistic illustration with her baile.

«Espacio ExpoFlamenco is a cultural space offering a multitude of possibilities for lovers of flamenco. The goal is having a meeting place for artists and aficionados overflowing with flamenco. This is an ideal venue for exhibitions, intellectual gatherings, flamenco lessons…» (Jafelín Helten)

«Flamenco is a matter of sharing. Espacio ExpoFlamenco has been created to share experiences and dreams. Beautiful things will come to life in this venue. We want this cultural space to become the heart of flamenco in the world», explained José María Castaño in his presentation.

«We are thrilled to present this new concept, which goes well beyond a simple store. It is a cultural space offering a multitude of possibilities for lovers of flamenco. The goal is having a meeting place for artists and aficionados overflowing with flamenco. This is an ideal venue for exhibitions, intellectual gatherings, flamenco lessons…», added Jafelin Helten, founder of ExpoFlamenco.

«We want both locals and foreigners to visit this venue, a place where they can feel as in their own home. Besides, we wish to promote unity among all flamenco artists. Not just by giving them the opportunity to meet and know each other, but by enabling the creation of collaborative networks, the discussion of new projects and the development of new opportunities», continued Jafelin.

«We wanted to have a different type of venue. We took over this location in February and we have carefully looked after every detail. It is a small space, but it has a huge audience. We are betting on streaming services, and this can be a fantastic opportunity», explained Mitch Helten, founder and owner of ExpoFlamenco.

So now you know. In Jerez, on Diego Fernández Herrera Street, there is a corner with an intense flamenco flavor. It is called Espacio ExpoFlamenco, a little piece of the world’s flamenco heart.
